Happy February 1st! ❤️
Love is in the aiiiir today with my pink gloves 🥰💘
Did you know.. the color of a substance is determined by the way it absorbs and reflects light 💡
In the case of red and pink, these colors are due to the presence of certain pigments or dyes!
❤️ Red color: Red pigments, such as iron oxide (also known as hematite), are naturally occurring substances that can be found in various minerals and rocks. Synthetic red pigments, such as cadmium red, are also widely used in the production of paints, inks, and plastics!
💞 Pink color: Pink can be produced by adding white to red, or by using pigments or dyes that are less intense or transparent than red. Some common pink pigments and dyes include carmine (made from the cochineal insect), fuchsia, and rose madder.
The specific properties that lead to a red or pink color will depend on the specific molecule involved! ⚛️

Experiment of the day: pour a handful of salt into a full glass of water.. will the water level go down or will it overflow the glass? 🤔
Try it for yourself and lmk what happens! 👩🏻🔬

Gotta stay professional 😘🥼
🧪The length of a lab coat can indicate a person's profession or level of education. Long lab coats are typically worn by doctors and professors, while shorter lab coats are worn by nurses and laboratory technicians.
🧪The traditional white color of lab coats is believed to have originated from the need to make stains and spills visible, making them easier to clean! 🧽
🧪Lab coats were originally worn by scientists, but are now worn by a variety of professionals, including doctors, nurses, and dentist! 🦷🩺
🧪In the 19th century, lab coats were made of wool, which was believed to protect scientists from chemical reactions and explosions! 💥

🌈 In chemistry, many substances have distinct and characteristic colors due to the way their atoms and molecules absorb and reflect light! 💡
Here are some examples of common chemicals and their typical colors:
🧪Sodium chloride (table salt) is a white crystalline powder.
🧪Copper sulfate is a blue powder or crystal.
🧪Iron sulfate is a green crystal.
🧪Nitric acid is a colorless liquid that can turn yellow when exposed to air.
🧪Hydrochloric acid is a clear or slightly yellow liquid.
🧪Sulfuric acid is a clear, colorless liquid that can appear yellow when concentrated.
🧪Ethanol is a clear, colorless liquid.
Remember, the color of a substance can also change depending on the concentration, the presence of impurities, or the chemical reaction that is taking place! 👩🏻🔬

Organic chemistry is the study of the compounds that make up living organisms.
What do all organic molecules contain?

Golden hour ✨☀️
The color of the golden hour light is due to a combination of Rayleigh scattering and Mie scattering!
Rayleigh scattering, which is the same process that causes the blue color of the sky, scatters short-wavelength light (💙) more than long-wavelength light (❤️🧡).
Mie scattering, is caused by larger particles in the air, such as dust and water droplets, which scatter all colors of light more or less equally! 💧🔆
Together, these two processes give the light a warm, golden color ✨🌅

Periodic table studies 🤓📓
The periodic table was first proposed by Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869! 😱
The table has several distinctive regions, including the alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, halogens, and noble gases.
Each element is represented by a symbol, which is typically a one- or two-letter abbreviation of its name! 🔠 The elements are arranged in order of increasing atomic number, which is the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom!
The periodic table has played a crucial role in the development of modern chemistry, and it continues to be an essential tool for scientists and students of chemistry 🧪👩🏻🔬⚛️

Happy Wednesday 🥰
The study of chemistry is important because it helps us understand the world around us and how different substances interact with each other 🌎 ⚛️🧪
Understanding chemistry can help us make informed decisions about important issues, such as the safety and environmental impact of the products we use and the energy sources we rely on! ⚡️
Chemistry also plays a crucial role in many aspects of our daily lives, from the food we eat and the clothes we wear to the fuel we use to power our cars and the products we use to clean our homes 🥗👚⛽️🧼
